New Collagen Matrix A Unique Drug-Device Combination
Omeza recently announced in a press release the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance of Omeza® Collagen Matrix through the FDA 510(k) premarket notification process. Hydrolyzed fish collagen infused with cod liver oil (acting as an anhydrous skin protectant) and other plant-derived oils and waxes make up Omeza Collagen Matrix, according to the company. They go on to say that the matrix naturally incorporates into the wound after application and over time. Application does not require preparation and the product comes in unit dose vials.
Omeza Collagen Matrix is the company’s first prescription product, and the first drug-device combination matrix of its kind for chronic wound care, according to Omeza. Indications for Omeza Collagen Matrix include: management of partial- and full-thickness wounds; pressure ulcers; venous ulcers; diabetic ulcers; chronic vascular ulcers; tunneled/undermined wounds; surgical wounds (donor sites/grafts, post-Moh’s surgery, post-laser surgery, podiatric, wound dehiscence); trauma wounds (abrasions, lacerations, superficial partial thickness burns, skin tears); and draining wounds. According to the website, the collagen matrix softens and migrates when applied to a warm wound bed and the anhydrous formula promotes a moisture-balanced wound healing environment. The active skin protectant formulation also impacts the peri-wound area.

Plating System Helps To Bridge Voids In Ankle Fusion
The newly launched Silverback™ Ankle Fusion Span Plating System is specifically designed for use with a structural allograft or a titanium cage in cases of significant talar and/or ankle joint voids, according to a recent press release from Paragon 28®. The Silverback Span Plating System includes eight unique plates for anterior and posterior surgical approaches. The anatomically contoured plates are available in standard and long lengths and varying span distances.
All plates have a built-in proximal compression slot that surgeons can use to compress the bone-to-graft interface, says Paragon 28. The company goes on to say that transitional plate thickness helps to evenly distribute force across the construct and guard against stress. Available Monster® 7.0 mm screws can help stabilize the allograft prior to plate placement. The Posterior Span Plates accept Silverback™ 4.5 mm and 5.2 mm screws for the tibia and calcaneus. The Anterior Span Plates accept Silverback 4.5 mm and 5.2 mm screws in the tibia and talar body and Gorilla® R3CON 3.5 mm and 4.2 mm screws in the talar neck holes.
Surgeons may drill plate screws on-axis using the Straight/EZ Cone Guide or off-axis up to 15 degrees. The Phantom Hindfoot TTC/TC Nail should be inserted prior to the Straddle Plate placement. The relatively wider plate design accommodates the Phantom TTC/TC Nail which helps evenly distribute force across the construct and guard against stress shielding during healing. The company website details that the Silverback case and tray carries a wide variety of joint preparation instrumentation, as well.

3D Custom Foot Orthotic System Encourages Efficiency And Collaboration
Arize Orthotic Solution is an end-to-end digital orthotic system that will allow providers to capture 3D data, fine-tune and prescribe personalized orthotic devices, all in less than five minutes, according to the company. Arize uses a combination of 3D printing and cloud-based software and provides unique customization features. The system starts with five device styles, with providers having the capability to approve, modify or adjust specific details based on individual patient factors, says HP.
The company also shares that the cloud-based structure of Arize allows all personnel in the office or facility to access their respective parts of the system to allow for enhanced collaboration and streamlined operations.
“Arize leverages proprietary HP innovations in digital software and data intelligence to provide a solution with highly accurate, repeatable and consistent digital workflows,” shares HP in a recent press release.
They add that devices produced with HP’s Multi Jet Fusion technology can be made to optimize materials use while delivering fine detail combined with strength. 3D printing also brings production closer to the point of consumption, which simplifies supply chains and drives reductions in carbon emissions and waste.
