New Smart Insole System Focuses on Enhanced Biomechanical DataDigitsole

Digitsole recently announced the launch of its Digitsole Pro® system and smart insoles in the United States, which is also available in Europe and other countries globally. The company shares that they developed this system in collaboration with and targeted for health care professionals in order to improve clinical assessment of patients with mobility disorders. In a recent press release Digitsole says the system, “… represents an important assessment advancement that can help improve a patient’s walking or running, and advance recovery from neurological, orthopedic, age-related or sport-related conditions by measuring objective biomechanical data that cannot be observed by the naked eye.”

The Digitsole Pro insoles’ inertial platform has the capability to record walking steps, running strides and the orientation of the feet in space, they add. There are also connected chips inserted into a patient’s insoles that retrieve the data collected at the end of each activity. Digitsole then says that the Digitsole Pro’s proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm processes these movements, converting them into relevant clinical data for clinicians to translate into effective treatment options. The company shares that the smallest foot inertial measurement unit module in the world, DSPods, is part of the Digitsole Pro system, and evaluates the quantitative and qualitative impact of a patient’s movement.

New Ankle Fusion System Offers a Less Invasive ApproachParagon 28

Paragon 28 shares the recent launch of the Silverback Mini-Open Plating System for arthroscopic or mini-open ankle fusion procedures. The company relates that the anterior mini-open plate offers an alternative to a three-screw construct and a smaller incision compared to traditional ankle arthrodesis, allowing the surgeon to preserve the soft tissue envelope. Paragon 28 adds that their research revealed that fewer screws enabled surgeons to preserve bone surface area, improving union rates, specifically for patients with poor bone quality at the ankle joint. Additionally, they share that the mini-open construct avoids medial and lateral gutter fusion, allowing for later take-down to a total ankle replacement.

The Silverback Mini-Open Plating System has flat and contoured choices for its four unique plates so the surgeon can accommodate anatomic variations. All plate screws also provide the option to drill on- or off-axis up to 15 degrees. Made from Type II Anodized Titanium, Paragon 28 shares that this construction contributes to increased strength where the plate undergoes the most stress, and tapers proximally and distally to limit disruption of soft tissue. A patent-pending Precision Guide that compliments the plating system assists surgeons in reproducible cannulated screw placement outside of the plate, to increase rigidity of the construct and decrease micromotion. In addition, included burrs can aid in osteophyte removal and in preparation of the tibiotalar joint.
