Jolynn Tumolo

A 55-gallon drum of vanilla-scented hand sanitizer sent to a distributor in Oklahoma is under recall because it contains acetal and acetaldehyde at levels above the product’s specified amounts. According to the November 29, 2023, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report, recalling firm Integrity Bio-Chemicals distributed the sanitizer to a single distributor in Oklahoma that may have further distributed the product.

The recall affects Integrity Biochem HSC 70-VA, alcohol antiseptic 70%, hand sanitizer, vanilla-scented topical gel, in a 55-gallon drum (NDC 77512-052-03), from lot 2134106 (manufacturing date 11/23/21). No expiration date is available.

Integrity Bio-Chemicals voluntarily initiated the recall October 18, 2023. The FDA designated the recall Class II on November 20, 2023. The use of the product under a Class II recall could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or a remote possibility of serious harm.

HSC 70-VA is an over-the-counter topical antiseptic.
