Menthol Pain Relief Patches Recalled

JR Watkins is recalling 7138 cooling menthol extra-strength pain relief patches because of deviations from Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) regulations, according to the December 4, 2024, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

The recall affects cooling menthol extra-strength pain relief patches, menthol 7.5%, in 5-count boxes (UPC 8 56294 00878 5, NDC 72342-100-05), from lots JC101, JC102, and JC103 (Exp. 10/31/25). The patches were distributed throughout the United States by JR Watkins LLC, Oakland, California.

JR Watkins voluntarily initiated the recall on November 1, 2024. On November 27, 2024, the FDA designated the recall Class II, communicating use of the product could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. A remote possibility of serious harm also exists.

The cooling menthol extra-strength pain relief patches are an over-the-counter treatment for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains of the muscles and joints due to arthritis, simple backache, strains, sprains, and bruises.
