First Aid Antiseptic Recalled Over Leaky Containers
Defective containers that can leak when squeezed or not in an upright position prompted Vi-Jon LLC to voluntarily recall 3 million bottles of 70% isopropyl alcohol labeled by Medline Industries, according to the June 29, 2022, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.
The recall affects 70% isopropyl alcohol first aid antiseptic in 118-mL bottles (NDC 53329-798-04, UPC [01] 10888277362291) from lots 0517418 (Exp. 12/22); 0506632, 0519195, and 0522494 (Exp. 1/23); 0525627, 0525629, 0526051, 0526052, 0527664, and 0527665 (Exp. 3/23); 0531133 and 0531134 (Exp. 4/23); 0533153 and 0534050 (Exp. 5/23); 0534585, 0534587, and 0536089 (Exp. 6/23); 0538694 and 0541334 (Exp. 7/23); 0539877 and 0542355 (Exp. 8/23); 0545225, 0547054, 0547055, and 0547131 (Exp. 9/23); 0547130, 0551014, 0551015, and 0552608 (Exp. 10/23); 0552609, 0552610, and 0553905 (Exp. 11/23); 0556144 and 0557513 (Exp. 12/23); 0559594, 0559602, and 0559603 (Exp. 1/24); 0551013, 0559596, 0559604, 0559605, 0561393, and 0561395 (Exp. 2/24); 0556143, 0561396, and 0561549 (Exp. 3/24); and 0565877 (Exp. 4/24).
The product was made in the United States with US and foreign components for Medline Industries Inc and was distributed throughout the United States.
Vi-Jon initiated the recall June 15, 2022. The FDA designated the recall Class II on June 21, 2022. Products affected by Class II recalls may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences if used. While remote, a possibility of serious harm also exists.
Isopropyl alcohol is an over-the-counter first aid antiseptic used to help prevent the risk of infection from minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.
