Celebrating the Pharmacy Profession
National Pharmacy Week is observed from October 15 through October 21 this year. Still, every week should be Pharmacy Week because of the valuable contributions of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across the country in optimizing the delivery and safe use of medications and a host of other clinical and work-related responsibilities that contribute to the health and well-being of patients. In 2004, the American Pharmacists Association also designated October as American Pharmacist Month.1
The multifaceted roles of pharmacists as health care providers continue to evolve, and as essential members of the health care team, pharmacists should be saluted for their tireless day-to-day efforts in ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare to their patients, including dispensing medication, administering vaccinations, educating patients and prescribers about medications, medication therapy management, making clinical recommendations and so much more.
To my fellow pharmacists and all the pharmacy technicians across the country, always remember that you are appreciated and vital to the healthcare system, and every day, you make a positive difference in patients' lives. You are indeed indispensable.
Thank you for your hard work, dedicated efforts, and contributions. You should be celebrated today and every day. Remember to take some time to celebrate yourselves and your fellow colleagues and all your good work. We applaud you all! You deserve a standing ovation.
Happy National Pharmacy Week! Happy American Pharmacist Month!
Question: Why did you become a pharmacist, and will you and your colleagues do anything special to celebrate your profession?
