Temple Grandin Explains Sensory Issues Faced by Children With Autism
Author and speaker Temple Grandin, PhD, explained the various sensory issues faced by young people who have autism, and the need for treatment to be tailored to those issues, during a talk at Psych Congress 2017.
"The problem we’ve got with evidence-based scientific research is if you just assign a subject to treatment by autism, you’re mixing cats, dogs, and donkeys together," Dr. Grandin told hundreds of attendees. "These things need to be studied based on the particular problem—sound sensitivity, visual problems, touch sensitivity problems."
