Dr. Edward Kaftarian on the Ramifications of COVID-19

In this installment of "Coping During COVID-19," Psych Congress Steering Committee member Edward Kaftarian, MD, talks about the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic with fellow Steering Committee member Saundra Jain, MA, PsyD, LPC.

“Recently it’s become very easy to do,” he said of telepsychiatry. “I would suggest that you go forward bravely and not look back.”

Dr. Kaftarian, who will present at the upcoming Elevate and Psych Congress conferences, also relays 3 learnings he has experienced during the crisis.

“This pandemic gives us an opportunity to coalesce as a society and to treat each other kindly,” he said. “I think that people have really stepped up.”

Dr. Kaftarian is chief executive officer of Orbit Health Telepsychiatry, Encino, California, and helped develop the telepsychiatry program for the California prison system. He serves as vice-chairman of mental health for the American Telemedicine Association and co-authored the American Psychiatric Association's telepsychiatry guidelines 

"Coping During COVID-19" is an initiative designed to provide content and connection to mental health clinicians during the global pandemic.
