Psych Congress Launching New Offering for Early-Career Clinicians

The organizers of Psych Congress have announced the launch of a new offering, Elevate by Psych Congress, a 3-day event designed for early-career clinicians.

The inaugural gathering will take place March 3-5, 2017, in San Francisco, California.

“This educational offering has been created to fill a void in the field,” said Rakesh Jain, MD, MPH, co-chair of Psych Congress and a Steering Committee member for Elevate. “We don’t just want to educate, we want to change behavior and transform the future of mental health—the statistics demand it. A key way to accomplish this is to begin with the future leaders of our field."

The featured speaker will be Thomas R. Insel, MD, a neuroscientist, psychiatrist, and Director of Clinical Neuroscience at Verily, formerly Google Life Sciences. Dr. Insel, who served as Director of the National Institute of Mental Health from 2002 to 2015, will lead a session titled "Psychiatry in 2030."

Attendees of Dr. Insel’s session will identify ways technology can help assess mental disorders and learn about online tools for interventions.

The conference and exhibition will feature CME/CE-accredited educational sessions tailored to the needs of emerging clinicians, along with leading speakers in psychiatry and mental health and breakout thinkers who challenge the status quo. Participants will be connected with a faculty mentor who will address important questions, share insights and resources, and help them identify and develop their career objectives.

“This meeting will focus on outcomes—what will you do with the information once you’re back at the office? How will you interact with the entire mental health team? What new approaches will you consider when working with patients?” Dr. Jain said.

The faculty also includes Steven R. Chan, MD, MBA, a Clinical Informatics Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco. His session, “Connected Health Technologies and Mobile Apps for Mental Health,” will review available apps and devices, teach attendees how to evaluate them, and examine the challenges in developing, securing, and testing connected health technologies.

The conference will be accredited by the North American Center for Continuing Education (NACCME), and will offer participants the opportunity to earn up to 15.5 CME/CE credits.

Psych Congress is the nation’s largest independent education conference for mental health and psychiatry leaders, attracting an average of more than 2,100 attendees each year. It is owned and organized by HMP Communications Holdings, a leader in healthcare content and medical education meetings.
