As of April 3, 2020, there are 239,279 COVID-19 cases and 5443 deaths in the US, according to the CDC.
Major health insurers like United, Cigna, and Humana have pledged to waive cost-sharing and copayments for COVID-19 treatment. The state of New York has mandated that insurers are not to collect premiums from individuals or small businesses experiencing financial hardship for the next two months.
Recent reports show skyrocketing enrollment in Medicaid services due to COVID-19 related unemployment. State officials and policy researchers forecast that the increased enrollment will cause significant strain on the health care system.
