NYC Mayor to Provide Care to All Residents, Including Undocumented and Low-Income

January 2019

Bill De Blasio, mayor of New York City, is expected to unveil a new health plan for all city residents that will guarantee care regardless of their ability to pay or their immigration status.

The new health care program will be called NYC Care. It will guarantee health care to roughly 600,000 patients in New York that are currently uninsured. Further, undocumented immigrants will also be included in the program.

According to the mayor, the health care plan will cover primary and specialty care as well as maternity and pediatric care, and mental health services.

Although New York City has a public care option for insurance already, the new program will pay for direct comprehensive care for patients who cannot afford insurance or are not on Medicaid.

NYC Care will be available to New York residents through New York City’s website or by calling 311.—Julie Gould
