Innovative Health to Discuss Cost and Environmental Savings of Device Reprocessing in Heart Rhythm 2023 Presentation

Advanced medical device reprocessor’s HRS poster session describes how using reprocessed devices in an Atrial Fibrillation ablation procedure can reduce device costs by more than 30% and improve an EP lab’s environmental footprint.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., May 19, 2023 – Innovative Health, Inc. announced that it will be discussing the potential costs savings and environmental footprint reduction of a comprehensive device reuse (reprocessing) program during a poster session at this week’s Heart Rhythm 2023, the premier electrophysiology event presented annually by the Heart Rhythm Society. The presentation, entitled “Device Reuse And Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Procedure Costs As A Percentage of Reimbursement” (session title PO-454305, poster session II) will take place on May 20, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“Device costs in Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) ablation procedures are substantial and often more than half of CMS reimbursement, potentially cutting into profitability for EP labs,” said Innovative Health CEO Rick Ferreira. “At the same time, the extensive use of single-use devices in AFib ablation has negative impact on the environment. Device reuse (reprocessing) offers a way to reduce the percentage spent on devices, as well as environmental impact. We’re pleased to be shining a light on this incredible potential through this research presentation at Heart Rhythm 2023.”

Key findings of the study being presented by Innovative Health at HRS include:

  • Using reprocessed devices in an Atrial Fibrillation ablation procedure can reduce device costs by more than 30%, or approximately $3,250.
  • This savings reduces the device cost burden on reimbursement from 48% to 33%.
  • Using a reprocessed device reduces the carbon footprint of an electrophysiology device by 1.94 lbs. In an Atrial Fibrillation ablation procedure, the reduction in carbon emissions is estimated to be 13.6 lbs., or more than 2,000 lbs. per year for a facility that does 150 AFib ablations per year.
