CAST-AF 2019: Highlights from the Inaugural Meeting
The first-ever Catheter and Surgical for Atrial Fibrillation (CAST-AF) Program took place August 16 and 17, 2019 at the Loews Hotel Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. The event was sponsored by the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Office of Continuing Medical Education. This interactive conference provided the unique opportunity for both electrophysiologists and cardiovascular surgeons to share their innovative techniques for the catheter and surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation, including management of the left atrial appendage.
The Course Directors of this two-day educational initiative were James Cox, MD, Bradley Knight, MD, and Patrick McCarthy, MD. The Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine designated this live activity for a maximum of 14.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.
More than 60 faculty members and over 275 attendees took part in this inaugural event. The conference included plenary lectures, roundtables, and debates, as well as breakout sessions for EP and surgery related topics. There were many lively panel discussions and questions from the audience, as well as audience voting. The second day of the conference also featured a special invited plenary lecture by Amiran Revishvili, MD, PhD on his role as both an interventional EP and cardiac surgeon.
