Wis. Medics Help Save Woman From Heroin Overdose

Bill Novak

July 31--A woman found unconscious behind the wheel of a car on the east side Monday afternoon was brought back to life when paramedics administered Narcan after she had overdosed on heroin, authorities reported.

The unidentified 34-year-old woman, who has no permanent address, will be arrested and identified once she is released from the hospital, according to a news release from the Madison Police Department.

She is facing tentative charges that include possession of heroin, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence-fifth offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation.

The woman was found unconscious behind the wheel of a car at about 4:30 p.m. Monday in a parking lot in the 2800 block of East Washington Avenue.

After getting Narcan, she was revived in the back of a fire department ambulance, saying she was fine.

"A paramedic told her she was not fine, she almost died, and would have died had Narcan not been administered," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain in the release. "She understood and said 'thank you.'"
