Inaugural Meeting Held for Northern California Women in Interventional Cardiology
Women in interventional cardiology are well recognized but under-acknowledged. Our statistics have not changed much in the last couple of decades. We do not need gender-based direction, but we do need affirmation and equal opportunities. Unfortunately, we are far away from the reality of equal rights. It’s time to represent ourselves and we should not leave our representation at the mercy of others. We must come together to support our present and future endeavors.
We have initiated a quarterly meeting for Northern California Women in Interventional Cardiology. Our inaugural meeting was held November 4, 2022, and featured an introduction from Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) President Sunil Rao, MD, FSCAI, who offered his congratulations to the Northern California Women in Interventional Cardiology group. Dr. Rao noted, “Initiatives like this are important to ensure diversity in our profession and broaden the representation of interventional cardiology. SCAI is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusivity, and our commitment is demonstrated through the SCAI WIN committee and the newly formed DEI committee. We look forward to welcoming the members of the Northern California Women in Interventional Cardiology into the Society.”
The meeting was sponsored by Boston Scientific. Attendees discussed clinical, nonclinical, personal, professional, and organizational issues. As the group progresses, we will incorporate innovative ideas to make it more successful, resourceful, and supportive.
