SICP: President`s Letter

Tracy Simpson RCIS, FSICP President, SICP
May 2003
Dear Colleagues, SICP Members and Friends, I would like to take a few moments to speak with you as we transition into a new era of cardiovascular medicine. I would first like to say thank you to Roger Sigfried, Past President of the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals (SICP). During the past two years, Roger has successfully taken the SICP to a new and higher level. Roger can add several feathers to his cap for accomplishing such tasks as: 1. Doubling our membership through a new membership drive. 2. Gaining national recognition for the society. 3. Aiding in the formation of the first SICP chapter in Texas. 4. Developing the Ohio River Valley Cardiovascular Conference to cater specifically to the cath lab professionals educational needs. I look forward to Roger’s continued support and contribution to the SICP. With our country in conflict, I find myself often focusing on the important things in life such as family and friends, but it also gives me a great sense of hope to know that together anything can be accomplished successfully with teamwork. This is how I feel about the SICP. As cardiovascular professionals, it is important to have the same sense of hope in order to create the best working environment for everyone. The SICP strives to affect change at both the state and national levels, promote teamwork, and provide a sense of unity in the cath lab. SICP is unity! The SICP prides itself on being an inclusive organization. SICP is for all of you who work in the multidisciplinary cardiovascular arena, including the RCIS, RTR, RN and anyone else that plays a part in the cardiac cath lab. Under my leadership during the next two years, the SICP plans to continue the positive momentum in order to accomplish such initiatives as: Joint collaboration with other invasive societies, both nationally and internationally; Monitoring of legislative initiatives on both state and federal levels and making changes as necessary; Implementing a new education campaign to include continuing education opportunities around the country; Increasing member services by offering more to membership. I believe that with the ever-changing face of invasive cardiology and the rapid growth of technology, the challenges that lie ahead are not insurmountable. However, your involvement with the SICP can and will allow change to happen! If you have never been a member or have been in the past, I challenge you to join the SICP family, become a team player, and make a difference for the cardiovascular community as well as the patients we serve! There are numerous opportunities to serve on committees and boards that provide leadership experience. I look forward to meeting you throughout the next two years. Please stop by our SICP booth at most major conferences, say hello to our board of directors and inquire how you can make a difference! Our vision lies in the future of the cardiovascular professionals who work in the trenches to make the cath lab what it is today…YOU are that professional!
