President-Elect Message from Lynne Jones RN, RCIS, FSICP As SICP’s President-Elect, I wanted to introduce myself to the membership. Having worked in the cath lab for 19 years, excluding the short time I served as an organ donor coordinator, I feel strongly about advancing the profession of the Invasive Cardiovascular Professional. I became a member when the SICP was first formed but only because receiving the Cath Lab Digest was a benefit. I wasn’t concerned with why or for what reasons the Society was established. However, I was beginning to be aware of the need for an organization of cath lab professionals. In 2002, Scott Hardin, Bob Turner, and I began discussions about forming a local organization to provide education and networking for people working in cath labs. We decided early on that associating ourselves with a professional society would be imperative. The SICP was the obvious choice. The result of that first meeting is SICP’s inaugural chapter - the Gulf Coast Chapter. The Gulf Coast Chapter is based out of Houston, Texas. As I began working with the SICP Board of Directors, I became more aware of the special challenges facing cath lab professionals, not only in Texas, but nationwide as well. The SICP is an inclusive society and is perfectly positioned to meet those challenges head-on for our membership. SICP membership includes different modalities, and drawing on the special talents and knowledge each modality encompasses will only work to make our profession stronger. Over the last three years I have become increasingly more involved with the SICP. I have met so many people that sincerely want to help further our profession. Cath lab professionals are inspired and inspiring. When people take the time to enhance their knowledge, network with their peers, mentor others, advocate for patient safety, and maintain the highest standards, they are then considered professional. I am truly honored to be among you, and proudly call myself a cath lab professional. My peers are Radiologic Technologists, Respiratory Therapists, RNs, LVNs, CVT and RCISs, EMTs, and possibly many others. What really matters though is that all are cath lab professionals. That is the difference that sets the SICP apart from many other professional societies. For the remainder of 2005, I will be gaining knowledge from SICP’s President, Tracy Simpson as well as the remainder of the SICP Board of Directors. As well, I will work to gain your support and trust. I wish to focus on membership growth, educational offerings and chapter development. There are many practice issues for the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist that need addressing, and the SICP is the society to do just that. There is more work to be done than people to do it, so I challenge you to get involved. Many voices together make one loud voice. Please feel free to drop me a line at ljcathnurs@ houston.rr.com. I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you.
