Outgoing President Says, Thank You

Roger Siegfried, BS, RCIS, FSICP Director Invasive Cardiology Norton Audubon Healthcare Louisville, Kentucky
April 2003
1. We increased membership in the SICP from 523 members to over 1400. We have improved communication with our members and potential members by getting out to different symposiums and telling you about the SICP, updating our website, and increasing our exposure in Cath Lab Digest. 2. We were able to get a seat on the ASRT alliance committee and convinced the ASRT to recognize the RCIS credential within its CARE legislation act. 3. We represented our members as a member of the American College of Cardiology CQI Taskforce team. 4. We conducted our own symposium, The Ohio River Valley Cardiovascular Symposium. (The 2nd Annual Ohio River Valley Cardiovascular Symposium is scheduled for early November 2003). 5. We had our first collaborative meeting with the ACVP, ACCN, ACHE and the SICP in Chicago at the end of March 2003. 6. Thanks to the hard work of Lynne Jones, Scott Hardin, Julie Baran, Bob Turner, Dale Hansen, and a few others, we added our first chapter affiliation, the SICP Gulf Coast Chapter, in the Houston, Texas area. So, yes, we have been successful, but are we finished? Is the pressure off? Not quite! We still have a long way to go. Our new board members face the challenge of continuing the hard work of the SICP. Each and every member of the SICP and its board of directors deserve credit for the accomplishments and the SICP’s positive motion. Truth be told, we could not have done it without our most precious resource YOU!!! How did we motivate our members to do such an excellent job? To pull off all these accomplishments? We didn’t. You motivated yourselves. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra that each of you contributed. You spoke out loudly during the letter-writing campaign, you joined in record numbers, attended more seminars and spread the word about the only society that represents all staff working in the field of invasive cardiology. They say one of the greatest sources of energy is pride in what you do. You have displayed that extra something energy, pride and commitment. My final challenge to all our members is to please stay involved and get your friends involved. Support the organization and Tracy Simpson, your new SICP President. Tracy will do a wonderful job and keep the progress going. Talk about the SICP, who we are and what we have accomplished. Tell your friends if they want their voice heard, to join the SICP we can only get louder with more members. Stay active with the SICP. Attend seminars; get involved with some of our committees. There are many things you could do to become involved with the SICP. Have you thought about obtaining your fellowship status? If you have, then get involved, make things better for the field and submit your application for your fellowship status. Visit our website at www.sicp.com and check it out. I want to give personal thanks to the executive board and board of directors. Without their leadership and ideas, this success would not have been possible: Tracy Simpson, President-Elect (and now the current President); Rick Meece, Secretary; Darren Powell, Treasurer; Marsha Holton, Director; Ken Gorski, Director; Andrea Davis, Editor; Bo Valadez, Webmaster; Tom Maloney, Editor; and Chris Nelson, Past President. I want to give a special thank-you to Julie Hillier for all her guidance and mentoring over the past two years. You are truly a special lady who possesses a thorough knowledge of the healthcare field. Julie’s staff at AHTA is awesome, especially Pam Nobles and Diana Durrance, who offered tremendous support over the past two years. I also want to thank Brandon for all his hard work on our website design. I know there are other unnamed staff members who have contributed to our success and I want to say Thank you to you as well. I was also fortunate enough to work for two of the best Vice Presidents a manager/director could ever work for. Rob Gianguzzi who was Vice President, Cardiac Services at Christiana Healthcare in Newark, Delaware, and Mike Esposito, Vice President, Cardiac Services at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky. They allowed me the time off to attend meetings and conferences representing the SICP. Thanks also to my very good friends and co-workers, Donna Brown, Mary Geib, Reggie Roney, Heather Rogerson, Darryn Neujhar, Peg Harrison, Pat Wessell and Matt, Dickie and Jessica for all your support at Christiana and of course all of my great friends and coworkers here at Norton Healthcare: Nancy Morgan, Mike Sego, David Breitmeyer, Mary Benedict, Diana Hereford, James Rayborn, Charles Riddick, Philip Taylor, Pam Creech, Patti Boyle and Connie Soeder and the rest of the cardiology team. (If I failed to mention your name please don’t feel offended, you know I appreciate the hard work of each and every one of you!) I would be remiss if I didn’t thank my family, especially my beautiful wife of 27 years, Debbie Jo, for putting up with all the late night phone calls, the marathon phone conferences and all the traveling and being gone on weekends. I cannot thank you enough for all your support over my twenty years in this wonderful and crazy field of invasive cardiology. You are my hero! …And thank you, everyone, for your support!
