Info overload?
October 2003
It’s an understandable position to be in, considering how the field of invasive cardiology works. This is a field that’s continuously thundering ahead, bringing us from one cutting-edge product or therapy to the next. It’s wonderful, and admittedly, hard to take a break from information overload for very long. After all, more than likely you’ll miss out on something amazing.
Equally important, however, is the ability to take a step back and simply attend to the present day, the patient on the table, or what’s happening in the next minute. As cath lab professionals, you have an important luxury the ability to see how your actions directly and quickly improve people’s lives. Imagine if your work was to import tiny screws from Japan or create computer systems. Sure, you’d bring a certain level of joy to your work, but the deep satisfaction of knowing that you are doing good for others wouldn’t be the same.
It’s a little ironic to write about taking a step back from information overload when Cath Lab Digest is all ABOUT information overload. Well...here’s some brief thoughts to consider.
Dr. Ron Waksman of Washington Hospital Center shares his thoughts about brachytherapy and drug-eluting stents. He points out that brachytherapy still has a place in the almost-restenosis-free world; plus, new regulations have made procedures a lot easier to conduct.
Irene Seymour discusses her role in helping the invasive cardiology field to grow, and how she came to develop her company and become a CEO. Her fascinating history helped to build the current important role played by the cardiac cath lab professional.
CLD also has the following: a special TCT news section, a chance to be the fly on the wall during a discussion on medical-industry relations, and successful, published authors Heidi Bonneau and Morton Kern reveal their coveted writing-for-publication formula.
Enjoy!
Knowledge is the one thing no one can ever take from you
