Response: Call Team Suggestions Assuming that a call team contains 3 members, create four teams: Team A: 7 am -3:30 pm Team B: 8 am - 4:30 pm Team C: 9:30am - 6:00 pm (Extended call team) Team D: 11:00am -7:30 pm (Call team) All shifts rotate on Fridays. Team D is call team for the week. They finish any cases after 7:30 pm. If they are called after leaving duty, they can get as much rest as possible until they return at 11:00 am. On the next Friday, this team rotates to 9:30 - 6:00 pm. Team C finishes cases with the intention of leaving at 7:30 pm. So their last case goes on the table no later than 6:30 pm. They may need to remain after 6 pm, if necessary, but NOT past 7:30 pm. This team rotates to 8 am - 4:30 pm on Friday morning. Team B finishes at 4:30 with their last case starting no later than 3:30 pm. This rotates to 7:00 - 3:30 pm on Friday morning. Team A finishes at 3:30 pm, with their last case starting at 2:30 pm. This team rotates to 11:00 am - 7:30 pm on Friday morning. The purpose is to have three teams fully rested per week, while the call team stays to handle the overflow of the so-called emergency patients. Each team should one well-experienced member; one moderately experienced team member; and one member, who has less experience then the two more senior members. This method of team formation should have a very productive person, a moderately productive person, and a member, who is on the up slope of the "bell-curve" of experience. The reason for changing shifts on Friday is so three teams can rest over the weekend and enjoy some free down time with their families, relatives, and friends. Charles O.
