Are you a professional working in the area of invasive cardiac catheterization? Then you need to be registered with www.cci-online.org as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS). What’s required? Passing (or receiving exemption from) the Cardiovascular Science Examination and the Invasive Registry Examination. Congratulations to Anthony Renrick, RCIS of Riverdale, Georgia, and Richard Visco, RCIS, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, both of whom recently received their RCIS credentials. Renrick was an RCIS review course participant. Congratulations also to recent graduates from the Cardiovascular Technology program at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland, who passed the RCIS exam prior to their graduation last spring: Charlene Chapman Muse RT, RCIS, Melony Thomas Bryant, RCIS, and Tony Sego-Fuqua, RCIS. CENTRAL TEXAS: On October 27, 2005, the Central Texas chapter held a dinner meeting at El Mercado in Austin. Christine Gillett was introduced as the new Chair for the local chapter. A brief business meeting was held, followed by a program titled: Understanding Pathophysiology and Treatment of Acute Angina, presented courtesy of The Medicines Company. Planning is underway for the next meeting, to be held the first quarter of 2006. Thank you to our meeting/CEU sponsors, The Medicines Company and FoxHollow Technologies, Inc. GULF COAST: The Gulf Coast Chapter held its first annual double elimination bowling tournament for Houston-area cath labs on October 22, 2005. One hundred thirty-one people participated and thirteen hospitals, along with Houston Community College. were represented. A special thank-you to all the vendors who made our tournament possible: Medtronic, Merit Medical, Bard, Guidant, EV3, Datascope, FoxHollow, GE Healthcare, Arrow, St. Jude Medical, Vascular Solutions, Edwards, and Schering Plough/ Intergril. We appreciate your support. Thank you also to Dr. Waqar Khan for a very informative and entertaining presentation, Sex and The Heart. 2006 Gulf Coast Chapter Meeting Dates: March 16, May 18, July 20, and September 21 All meetings are held at 6:30pm. ILLINOIS: The Illinois Chapter held their inaugural meeting October 19th, with 40 attendees representing five area facilities: Sherman Hospital, Elgin, IL; Delnor Hospital, Geneva, IL; Provena St. Joseph’s, Elgin, IL; St. Alexis Medical Center, Hoffman Estates, IL; Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry, IL. Also in attendance to lend their support were five cardiologists. Dr. Malinski spoke on carotid stenting, and the meeting was sponsored by Guidant. We plan to have elections and our next meeting in January or February 2006. We appreciate all the support we received from SICP and our local chapter members. INDIANA: At the first chapter meeting, five facilities were represented: Clarian in Indianapolis, Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana and Howard Regional Health System In Kokomo, Indiana. Please contact Martine Kinman, MKinman@clarian.org, for more information regarding the Indiana Chapter. NORTH CAROLINA: The NC Chapter met November 9th. Tony Groce of Abbott Vascular presented Vascular Access Site Management. The Chapter meeting was sponsored by Abbott Vascular. Earlier in the year, the first North Carolina Chapter meeting (see pictures) was sponsored by Boston Scientific. The meeting was a huge success, with 35 professionals in attendance, representing Forsyth Medical Center, Forsyth Technical Community College, Moses Cone Hospital, and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. There will be a free drawing for a 1-year membership to the SICP. OREGON: The SICP’s Oregon Chapter held its inaugural meeting on October 20, 2005. A total of 39 cardiovascular professionals attended. Three facilities (McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, Oregon Heart and Vascular Institute, and Oregon Cardiology Diagnostic Center) were represented. The evening saw two presentations for a total of two Category A CEUs. Richard Padgett, MD, of Oregon Cardiology, PC, and James Lewis, RCIS, of The Oregon Heart and Vascular Institute, Eugene, OR, presented Coronary and Ventricular Anatomy and Pathophysiology. Craig Pointer, RCIS, of Boston Scientific presented the second talk, Mechanism of Restenosis. The atmosphere was energetic and enthusiastic, the dinner was superb, and there were numerous comments on the excellence of the speakers and overall organization of the evening. We were all very pleased with the start of our Chapter and next month we’ll be kickin’ it up another notch!
