Report of the International Society of Advanced Level Medical Imaging Physician Specialists (ISMIPSI) and the Committee on Training Standards© Preamble: Third Module This proposed curriculum pertains to the development of the content specifications to define the tertiary/graduate level knowledge and skill sets suggested to train Advanced Level Cardiology Specialist Assistants to perform diagnostic and interventional carotid and peripheral cardiovascular procedures. Their training will be under the direct supervision and/or immediate supervision of board-certified/eligible interventional cardiologists, interventional radiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, or vascular surgeons, who practice invasive and interventional procedures that pertain to the cerebrovascular, head and neck vascular, the aortic vascular, and the peripheral vascular systems. In addition, the International Society of Advanced Level Medical Imaging Physician Specialists, Inc (www.ismipsi.org) and the Writing Committee continues to direct their proposal towards the development of a set of standards that enhance the quality of patient care and continuity of care through intuitive perceptions based on obligatory education, experience, knowledge, skills, and wisdom. By setting such standards, each advanced level allied healthcare medical imaging professional functions at the highest level of confidence and esteem through superb guidance of his/her sponsoring board-certified/eligible physician. The tertiary purpose of the curriculum is to develop the content specifications that define the tertiary/graduate level knowledge and skill sets required to develop an internationally recognized certification examination. And finally, the intention of the International Society of Advanced Level Medical Imaging Physician Specialists, Inc and the Committee is to develop the suggestive set of standards that require sound decisions based on cognition and technical skills. These requirements are obligatory so this category of physician extender can assist or perform invasive and interventional carotid and peripheral studies in conjunction with invasive and interventional cardiac-related procedures.
