Pinnacle Treatment Centers Announces Successor to Longtime CEO

Tom Valentino, Digital Managing Editor

Pinnacle Treatment Centers announced this week that it has chosen a successor for longtime CEO Joe Pritchard.

With more than 3 decades of executive leadership experience, Michael Lawler has been appointed by Pinnacle’s board of directors to assume the company’s chief executive role. Lawler most recently served as CEO of CHE Behavioral Health Services, and previously held executive positions with Twin Med, Alliance Healthcare Services, and Apria Healthcare.

Pritchard, a 45-year industry veteran, has served as Pinnacle CEO since 2011. He will remain with the organization in a senior advisory role.

“Michael’s ability to drive complex care in very creative ways while ensuring the professional staff are fully developed and supported within safe and professional environments is a cornerstone to his success,” Pritchard said in a news release announcing his successor. “We are thrilled to have him on board as our new CEO and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our organization and the patients we serve.”

In announcing his hiring, Pinnacle credited Lawler for his efforts to help increase access to care for underserved and disadvantaged populations. The company also noted that Lawler has been actively engaged in lobbying and legislative activities for healthcare and regulatory reform at federal and state levels.

Lawler’s arrival comes as Pinnacle continues to expand. Earlier this year, the company acquired 4 outpatient programs from Recovery Centers of America in a private equity-backed deal. Pinnacle now operates a network of 140 locations across 9 states.

“I plan on continuing the great work and tradition that Joe has established, and that Pinnacle has established,” Lawler said in a statement. “We have a voice, we have a presence, and I want to build on that as leaders and experts in the addiction treatment field. Our goal remains the same: to continue to bring more care to people and communities who need it.”
