Location Secured for UHS-Trinity Health Michigan Joint Venture

Southridge Behavioral Hospital, a soon-to-be constructed joint venture between Universal Health Services (UHS) and Trinity Health Michigan, has a location. UHS announced on Tuesday that land for the new hospital has been acquired near Trinity Health Medical Center in Byron Center, Michigan. Groundbreaking on the new facility is slated for summer 2023, and the hospital is expected to open in 2025.

Southridge Behavioral Hospital will accommodate up to 96 beds, serving adults and geriatric patients. The facility will have a staff of about 170 full-time and part-time employees, including physicians, nurses, therapists, mental health technicians, administration, dietary, and housekeeping personnel.

Southridge will be part of a network of behavioral health services in the area, including UHS-operated Forest View Hospital and a behavioral health crisis center being developed through a partnership between Trinity Health Michigan and Network180.

Health Connect America Completes 2 Acquisitions

Health Connect America, a behavioral health services platform, announced on Wednesday that it has completed its acquisitions of First Home Care and North Star Counseling of Central Florida. By acquiring the 2 programs, Health Connect America extends its reach to more than 21,000 children and families in 7 states, primarily in the Southeast.

Based in Richmond, Virginia, First Home Care provides therapeutic foster care programs in 4 locations and in collaboration with Foundations for Home and Community in Washington, D.C., and Maryland. First Home Care previously was owned by UHS.

North Star, based in Kissimmee, Florida, provides behavioral therapy services and targeted case management focusing on children and their families. The organization’s co-founders, Wilson and Omayra Villaneuva, are joining Health Connect America as directors of operations for Florida.

Spectrum Health Systems, a not-for-profit addiction treatment provider based in Worcester, Massachusetts, has launched a mobile treatment service that is the first in the state to offer all 3 medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD)—methadone, suboxone, and vivitrol.

The mobile clinic, which is sponsored by the Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Addiction Services, will offer MOUD, recovery coaching, and mental health services. Currently, it is based adjacent to St. John’s Church in Worcester and is approved to operate at the Southern Middlesex Opportunity Center’s Greater Worcester location. Spectrum said in a news release that it is working to secure additional locations in which the van will operate.

The van offers services 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

A new eating disorder treatment program opened its doors in Vermont on Wednesday. The Kahm Center for Eating Disorders, a mother-and-son-owned practice based in Burlington, Vermont, will offer intensive outpatient (IOP) and partial hospitalization (PHP) programs for eating disorders.

IOP services include individual and group therapy, meal support, and nutritional counseling. PHP services include the same, but with increased psychiatric care. The Kahm Center will also use metabolic testing and body composition analysis to assess how well patients adhere to meal plans.
