Business Briefs: Spectrum Health Systems, Proven Behavior Solutions, BACA, VITA Recovery

Spectrum Health Systems, a not-for-profit provider of addiction treatment services in Massachusetts and a range of recidivism reduction programming for justice-involved individuals throughout the US, announced this week that it has been awarded a new contract by the Virginia Department of Corrections to provide substance use disorder (SUD) treatment programs at 8 facilities.

The contract includes 2 therapeutic community programs, 4 community corrections alternative programs, 1 work center program, and 1 work release program.

Spectrum’s correctional treatment division was established in 1993 to provide specialized, trauma-informed treatment to individuals with a history of SUD and criminal behavior.

Proven Behavior Solutions Receives Investment From Health Enterprise Partners

Proven Behavior Solutions, a provider of home and clinic-based autism spectrum disorder (ASD) treatment services in southeast Massachusetts, has received a strategic investment from Health Enterprise Partners, a healthcare-focused investment firm.

The funding will support several growth initiatives for Proven as the company looks to expand its ASD treatment offerings across New England. Proven currently operates 3 clinical centers in Norwell, West Bridgewater, and Stoughton, Massachusetts, offering applied behavior analysis therapy, speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, special education advocacy services, and assistive technology support.

Bay Area Clinical Associates Partners With Frontline

Bay Area Clinical Associates (BACA), a provider of mental healthcare for children, adolescents, and young adults, has entered into a partnership with Frontline Healthcare Partners, a private investment firm.

BACA employs a team of 80 youth-focused clinicians, including 35 child and adolescent psychiatrists. Tom Tarshis, MD, MPH, BACA, founder and CEO, said in a news release that the deal with Frontline will accelerate the organization’s next growth phase as it looks to expand its continuum of services, as well as its geographic reach.

Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center Now Open in Houston

The John S. Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center at UTHealth Houston, the first public mental health hospital to open in Houston in more than 3 decades, has begun accepting patients.

The 253,800-square-foot facility, developed by the Houston studio of the architecture and design firm Perkins&Will, is located in the Texas Medical Center, and is comprised of an education/support pavilion, a pair of 4-story treatment wings with 264 inpatient beds for acute and subacute treatment. Combined with the adjacent UTHealth Houston Harris County Psychiatric Center’s existing beds, the campus is now the largest academic psychiatric hospital in the US, according to Perkins&Will.

The Dunn Center was built in partnership with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Medical Center.

Knoxville Center for Behavioral Medicine Begins Phased Opening

The Knoxville Center for Behavioral Medicine, a 64-bed hospital, has begun a phased opening Knoxville, Tennessee. The facility will provide a continuum of care for adults and geriatric patients with psychiatric, emotional, and addictive disorders. The hospital, which is the result of a collaboration between National HealthCare Corporation, Tennova Healthcare, and the University of Tennessee Medical Center, will begin by offering geriatric care, with its adult services to follow.

The 55,000-square-foot facility is expected to provide 200 jobs for Knox County, Tennessee.

VITA Recovery Appoints Vice President

VITA Recovery, a comprehensive drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility in Miami, Florida, announced the appointment of Jonathan Belolo, LCSW, as its vice president of clinical services. Belolo will help to develop the organization’s clinical team and advance its partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, as well as continuing care programs and lifespan recovery management initiatives.

Belolo, who has more than a decade of experience in the field, previously was CEO and founder of Sunshine Recovery Center, an intensive outpatient program for men.
