Tom Valentino, Senior Editor

Sheppard Pratt has announced the opening of a new psychiatry facility in Elkridge, Maryland, between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The 156,000-square-foot Sheppard Pratt – Baltimore/Washington Campus replaces the company’s hospital in Ellicott City.

The new campus will offer psychiatric and behavioral health services. It has 85 inpatient beds, four specialized outpatient programs that cover eating, thought and mood disorders, as well as a psychiatric urgent care unit. The new facility also includes a young adult patient care unit, which was not at the previous Ellicott City location.

The Sheppard Pratt – Baltimore/Washington Campus was constructed at a cost of $112 million, according to a report by the Baltimore Sun.

The new hospital, which has a 40-bed capacity, provides treatment for mature adults for issues related to PTSD, anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses. The facility provides inpatient care that includes individual and group therapy sessions, along with medication management, mental health education and treatment for co-occurring conditions.
