Geisinger and Acadia Open First Hospital in Joint Venture

Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Northeast, a joint venture between Geisinger and Acadia, opened its doors on Monday in Moosic, Pennsylvania. The 96-bed facility will offer treatment services for adults, adolescents, and children with acute symptoms of behavioral health disorders, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The facility will begin admitting patients at the beginning of August.

The new facility is the first of 2 hospitals being constructed as part of the Geisinger and Acadia partnership. Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Danville, which will also have a 96-bed capacity, is being developed in Danville, Pennsylvania, and is expected to open in 2025.

Geisinger said in a news release that the construction of the 2 new hospitals, which are expected to create a total of 400 new jobs, will allow the company to consolidate its inpatient behavioral health programs from Geisinger Medical Center, Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital, and Geisinger Community Medical Center.

Big Health Acquires Limbix

Big Health, a provider of non-drug digital treatments for mental health, announced that it is expanding into adolescent mental health with its acquisition of Limbix, developers of SparkRx, a digital therapeutic for teens and young adults with symptoms of depression. Founded in 2016, Limbix has raised $30 million in Series A funding. With its announced deal with Limbix, the Big Health portfolio will include SparkRx, as another adolescent product in development, and flagship programs for adults—Sleepio for insomnia and Daylight for Anxiety.

SparkRx will be made available to Big Health’s employer, public sector, health systems, and health plan customers, and also through strategic distribution agreements with pharmacy benefit managers.
