Business Briefs: Evernorth, BHCOE, Concert Health, Bradford Health Services
Evernorth, Cigna’s health services business, and health services accreditor Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (BHCOE) have announced a partnership to develop quality performance measures to help individuals with autism and their caregivers assess the quality of their treatment.
Evernorth and BHCOE will aim to establish measures for applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy so that patients, caregivers, providers, and health plans can assess quality of care, as well as patient outcomes as aligned with national healthcare quality standards in behavioral health.
The 2 organizations plan to implement the following measures:
- Increase transparency for patients and caregivers to advance patient-centered and value-based care delivered by ABA providers
- Ensure patients and providers have a voice in the design of value-based structures
- Help providers identify treatment modalities with the greatest positive impact on patients
- Increase and incentivize the number of ABA providers delivering services to patients
“Autistic individuals and their families deserve the peace of mind that comes with knowing the services they receive have met clear metrics for quality and effectiveness. That is what Evernorth and BHCOE can help deliver by establishing this foundation for consistent performance standards grounded in evidence-based practice,” Darren Sush, head of autism and psychology, behavioral health at Evernorth, said in a news release announcing the deal. “Together, we can build innovative value-based care models and help our network of ABA providers drive quality improvements.”
Concert Health Completes $42 Million Financing Round
Concert Health, a San Diego, California-based behavioral health medical group, announced on Wednesday that it has closed on a $42 million dollar Series B financing round led by Define Ventures. Existing investors Healthy Ventures, Vertical Venture Partners, and Townhall Ventures also participated in the financing. CommonSpirit Health and Advent Health also made strategic investments.
The funds raised will be used to scale its behavioral health services through a collaborative care model with primary care, pediatric care, and women’s health practices, Concert Health said in a news release. The company partners with 54 medical groups in 11 states, serving individuals with both private and public insurance. About 55% of its more than 27,000 patients served to date have been insured by Medicaid or Medicare.
Bradford Health Services Expands Into Mississippi
Bradford Health Services, a substance use disorder (SUD) treatment provider based in Birmingham, Alabama, announced that it has acquired The Estate at River Bend, a Mississippi-based facility that treats substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. The Estate is a 108-acre campus with an onsite detox facility, residential cottages, and nature-based experiential therapies.
The acquisition extends Bradford’s network of locations across the Southeast into Mississippi, joining 40 facilities in Alabama, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
