Discovery Behavioral Health Appoints SUD Division President
Discovery Behavioral Health (DBH), operator of a network of mental health, substance use, and eating disorder treatment centers, announced it has appointed industry veteran Jennifer Carvalho as president of its substance use division. Carvalho will report to James Bailey, the company’s chief operating officer.
Carvalho, who will also begin a term on the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers’ board of directors on January 1, 2023, most recently served as vice president of DBH’s substance use division and as CEO of Casa Palmera, a DBH substance use and mental health treatment center in Southern California. Carvalho has also previously served as CEO of Azure Acres Treatment Center in Sonoma County, California.
CleanSlate Centers Appoints New Chief Medical Officer
CleanSlate Centers, a national provider of outpatient medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for addiction, has announced the promotion of Claudie Jimenez, MD, to the role of chief medical officer. Dr Jimenez joined the organization in 2017 and has served in multiple roles, most recently as senior vice president of medical operations.
In her new role, she will now oversee all of the organization’s behavioral health initiatives. The organization said in a news release that the integration of its behavioral health counselors and medical providers under her watch will allow CleanSlate Centers to expand its holistic treatment approach and implementation of counseling.
Therapy Brands Acquires Echo Group
Therapy Brands, an information technology partner for mental, behavioral, and rehabilitative therapy practices, has announced the acquisition of the Echo Group, the New Hampshire-based creator of EchoVantage EHR, a visual-based EHR for behavioral healthcare organizations.
Therapy Brands offers practice management, revenue, and data solutions for therapy practices. The acquisition of the Echo Group will allow Therapy Brands to expand its enterprise capabilities and offer complementary solutions to its existing product portfolio Therapy Brands CEO Jeffrey Shoreman said in a news release announcing the deal.
Newport Healthcare Acquires PrairieCare
Newport Healthcare, operator of a network of mental healthcare programs for teens and young adults, announced that it has completed its acquisition of PrairieCare, a provider of psychiatric services.
Newport offers residential and outpatient treatment programs in 15 metro areas and 11 states. PrairieCare, meanwhile, offers mental health services to youth and adults at 9 locations in Minnesota. PrairieCare offers mental health screenings and operates an inpatient psychiatric hospital, intensive outpatient programs, partial hospitalization programs, and residential services.
CODAC Executive Earns Lifetime Honor From Rhode Island Association
CODAC Behavioral Healthcare President and CEO Linda Hurley recently was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Rhode Island Public Health Association, an affiliate of the American Public Health Association. The award was presented November 15 in Cranston, Rhode Island.
The award is given to an individual “who has made significant contributions to advance the public’s health at a national, state, or local level,” according to a CODAC news release. Hurley was recognized for her efforts at organizational, state, and national levels to develop and promote comprehensive, accessible, non-stigmatizing addiction care.
Having worked in substance use disorder treatment and behavioral healthcare for more than 30 years, Hurley has been with CODAC since 1991 and has served as president and CEO since 2016.
