Business Briefs: CarePlus NJ Receives $5 Million to Restore, Enhance Services

CarePlus NJ announced that it has been awarded a $5 million grant over 2 years from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as part of its Community Mental Health Center grant program.

The new funding will allow CarePlus NJ to restore and expand delivery of its clinical services impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, address the needs of patients with behavioral health conditions, support outreach to minority and historically excluded populations to raise awareness for services, and develop resources to address the mental health needs of staff.

CarePlus NJ said in a news release that it hopes to use the funds to also increase its outpatient treatment capacity and achieve a 100% reduction in waitlist time by enhancing its services access via telehealth and in-person capacity.

Discovery Behavioral Health Opens Eating Disorder Center

Discovery Behavioral Health has opened a Center for Discovery eating disorder treatment program in Mesa, Arizona. The program will treat more psychiatrically and medically complex adolescent patients, and is now accepting patients between the ages of 10 and 17.

Sherri Hicks, LCSW, has been appointed the facility’s clinical director, and Elizabeth Bochtler, MD, has been named medical director.

Discovery Behavioral Health operates a network of more than 130 mental health, substance use, and eating disorder treatment centers.

Magellan, NeuroFlow Unveil Collaborative Care Initiative

Magellan Healthcare, the behavioral and specialty healthcare division of Magellan Health, this week unveiled a collaborative care solution for health plans and providers that is designed to improve behavioral healthcare services delivered in physical settings.

The project, a collaboration with NeuroFlow, increases access to screening and care by enabling primary care and specialty providers to identify and manage undertreated and underdiagnosed low- to moderate-risk behavioral health conditions before they escalate.
