Amazon Introduces Health Benefit for Prime Members
Not content with cornering the market on online holiday shopping, Amazon is also now setting its sights on growing its retail healthcare profile.
The tech giant has introduced a healthcare benefit for its Prime members through its subsidiary One Medical. Amazon completed its acquisition of One Medical in February at a cost of $3.9 billion.
One Medical memberships include primary care services and behavioral healthcare support. The plan fully covers 24/7 on-demand virtual care, including video chats with licensed providers and asynchronous services.
Same- and next-day appointments are available in-person at One Medical primary care offices, which are located in 18 metropolitan areas across the US, as well as remotely. For behavioral health-related visits to One Medical offices, individuals can use most insurance plans or pay out of pocket.
"When it is easier for people to get the care they need, they engage more in their health, and realize better health outcomes,” Neil Lindsay, senior vice president, Amazon Health Services, said in a news release. “That’s why we are bringing One Medical’s exceptional experience to Prime members—it’s health care that makes it dramatically easier to get and stay healthy.”
The One Medical plan costs Prime members $9 per month (or $99 per year) for individuals, and up to 5 family members can be added for $6 per month each ($66 each per year). One Medical also offers its plan to individuals without a Prime subscription for $199 per year.
