Recovery residences gain a foothold on college campuses

A new sober living facility slated to open in July 2015 will accommodate up to seven University of California Santa Barbara students, according to NoozHawk.com. The recovery residence is operated by The Haven at College.

Now in its third year, the Haven program began as a pilot at the University of Southern California, later expanding to to Drexel University in Philadelphia, the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif., and the University of San Francisco. In all, the residences offer a living environment for 30 students in recovery from drug, alcohol and co-occurring disorders. A clinician meets with students regularly, and support includes group meetings.

According to the news story, there’s a national trend emerging in collegiate recovery residences, including  a Rutgers University facility that houses 80 students.
