New eating disorders treatment center to open in Chicago

Because many local eating disorders specialists have needed to refer patients out of town for 24-hour eating disorders treatment due to lack of specialized residential care options in Chicago, a new residential eating disorders treatment program will be opening in early 2014.

Chicago-based Insight Behavioral Health Centers, an organization that provides outpatient care to adolescents and adults suffering from eating disorders, has partnered with Eating Recovery Center, an international center providing comprehensive treatment for people with eating disorders, to expand into 24-hour residential eating disorders care in an effort to meet the expressed healthcare need of patients and families in the region.

Recently approved by the City of Chicago's Bureau of Planning and Zoning, and slated to begin accepting patients in early 2014, Eating Recovery Center of Chicago will be an intimately-sized, metropolitan residential program dedicated solely to the treatment of adults with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder and eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS). The residential treatment center will be located in the Streeterville neighborhood in a new facility that will provide comprehensive care for up to 16 adults.

Insight's medical and clinical leadership will collaborate with Eating Recovery Center's experts to ensure effective delivery of Eating Recovery Center's evidence-based treatment philosophies, processes and interventions in a 24-hour treatment environment. Working to promote the importance of continuity of care, patients may step down to Insight's outpatient programs in downtown Chicago, Evanston, Northbrook or Oak Park to continue their recovery in a supportive therapeutic setting offering opportunities to test recovery skills during evenings at home or in peer-supported, recovery-focused housing.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Eating Recovery Center, a treatment program known for its vast expertise and the medical and clinical excellence of its programs, to expand access to specialized eating disorders treatment in the Midwest," says Susan McClanahan, PhD, Founder and President of Insight. "We believe in making our specialized services as accessible as possible, and felt it was essential to launch this residential treatment facility in a metropolitan setting that allows patients to learn and practice healthy behaviors in an environment similar to their own. Patients will receive 24-hour medical, therapeutic and nutritional treatment, as well as family programming, to work towards lasting recovery."
