New autism treatment and research center opens

 Monday morning marked the opening of the new Great Lakes Center for Autism Treatment and Research in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  In an article by Ursula Zerilli, Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, who has a daughter with autism, is excited about this new facility and hopes that it can become the best in treatment and research for autism. 

This project cost $1.7 million dollars and will serve more than one purpose to the people who seek treatment.  It will become a home, a school, a doctor’s office and a training center for those people who are living with autism.  The line does not stop there though, the center will also offer treatment to those with other behavioral disorders such as cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.   

The article also reads that Calley said that currently less than 10 percent of kids are receiving the type of care that they need.

Their goal is to serve around 150 children and adolescents each year.
