Mental health coalition debuts at Yale

Unfortunately, the stresses of college can often push vulnerable students, many of whom are living away from home for the first time, to states of despair. The New York Times reports George Washington University students and officials alike shaken by a trio of deaths just this semester.

Recognizing the stress related to a life in a school known for excellence and achievement, the Coalition for Mental Health and Wellbeing debuts this week at New Haven, Conn.-based Yale University (New Haven, Conn.) The Coalition, which was formed in response to findings by the Yale College Council’s Report on Mental Health delivered last fall to President Peter Salovey, aims to facilitate expand efforts beyond a focus on policy changes.

“Mental health at Yale is one part what happens in the Yale Health building, but it’s also what happens in students’ interactions with other students,” said Mira Vale ’13, coalition co-founder and member of the steering committee. “The point of [the coalition] is to facilitate cross-group collaboration.”
