Acadia and Greenville create joint venture hospital

Acadia Healthcare and Greenville Health System (GHS) in South Carolina are creating a joint venture to invest approximately $64 million in a new 80,000-square foot inpatient behavioral health hospital. On its third quarter earnings call, Acadia had indicated joint ventures were in the works.

The new hospital, which is slated to open in March 2018, will include 120 inpatient beds for  alcohol and substance abuse inpatient services, geropsychiatry, adolescent psychiatry, children’s residential treatment, intensive outpatient therapy and partial hospitalization. Greenville Health System is the largest not-for-profit healthcare delivery system in South Carolina.

The next step is for the two organizations to prepare and submit a certificate of need application for the new hospital. Once approved, the joint venture will assume management of day-to-day operations and approximately 150 clinical and support staff members.

Last month, Acadia Healthcare and not-for-profit  Ochsner Health System reached a definitive agreement to create an 82-bed  joint-venture acute psychiatric hospital located in the greater New Orleans area. It is also scheduled to open in 2018.
