Feds investigate Medicaid contractor for privacy violations
08/28/2014
Local health care providers in Idaho say Optum has erroneously sent them reports meant for other providers. According to the Idaho Statesman newspaper, the reports show patient names and substance-abuse services they received.
Providers reportedly have complained about the administrative hassles of working with Optum and delays in payment, according to the Statesman story. And the data errors only contribute to the friction.
The company says that none of the errors have resulted in disclosure of patient information outside the network of providers. Under federal law, those providers also are prohibited from redisclosing the patient information.
