Centerstone closes programs in Illinois

According to the St. Louis Business Journal, Centerstone is consolidating some of its services in Illinois as a direct result of the ongoing budget battles in the state. Centerstone is owed $4.5 million in unpaid contracts.

The office in Jerseyville, Ill., will be closed, and patients will be referred to its office in Alton, Ill. Five counties will also be impacted by the closing of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Illinois program, according to the Business Journal.

Illinois has now endured nine months without a budget plan, as disagreements between Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democrats who control the state’s General Assembly continue.

Centerstone is one of the largest behavioral health providers in the state, offering counseling, psychiatric and medical services, substance abuse treatment, and services for adults with developmental disabilities. It has employed about 700, but staff levels will likely be reduced as a result of the program closings.

Last year, the organization acquired WellSpring Resources to boost its footprint in Illinois.
