White House Unveils Site to Help Locate Addiction Treatment Services
Treatment centers across the U.S. have a new resource to help potential clients reach them for addiction recovery services.
The Trump administration last week announced the launch of a new substance use disorder treatment locator website that it hopes will ease Americans’ process of finding treatment services for themselves or others.
More than 13,000 state-licensed facilities are listed on the locator, FindTreatment.gov. The site allows programs to be sorted by a variety of categories, including:
- Types of treatment offered, including treatment for co-occurring mental illness and availability of telehealth services
- Payment options
- Age
- Language
- Access to medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder
“When someone opens up about their struggles with addiction, it’s critical they and their loved ones have the right resources to quickly find help, and that’s exactly what this treatment locator aims to provide,” James Carroll, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, said in a statement. “Every situation is unique, and the Trump administration continues to support people who seek substance use treatment on their journey to recovery.”
The site, which will be managed by the White House, was built by government employees with feedback from more than 300 users and 60 interviews with individuals who have sought treatment, family members and providers, according to an Associated Press report.
The National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers was not consulted for the project, NAATP CEO Marvin Ventrell told BHE in an email. Still, the association the applauds the administration’s effort to make substance use disorder treatment more accessible, he said, adding that NAATP is currently in the process of reviewing the new locator tool.
“Consumer discernment regarding treatment options is critical,” he said.
Ventrell noted that NAATP built and has maintained its own Addiction Industry Directory (AID) and has produced a treatment selection guide for consumers, which identifies key signs of treatment proficiency, such as licensing and accreditation. NAATP members must attest to adherence to the association’s code of ethics and quality assurance guidebook as conditions of being listed in the AID.
