Shinseki apologizes, resigns

While the Veteran’s Administration (VA) health system has come under fire for long wait times—some as long as 115 days—there is equal concern  about attempts to cover up the problem. Today, VA Secretary Eric Shinseki resigned after a meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office, in which he apologized for the indefensible lack of integrity among senior leadership.

Shinseki is a retired four-star army general who fought in Vietnam and was previously the Army Chief of Staff. He was unanimously confirmed by the Senate as VA Secretary on January 20, 2009.
