Community Psychiatry Names New CEO, Adds 2 to Board

Community Psychiatry, a Sacramento, California-based provider of outpatient behavioral health services, announced that it has appointed J. Christopher Brengard as its CEO. The company is also expanding its board of directors to add experience in the areas of public policy and payer relations.

Community Psychiatry clinicians work with primary care physicians to coordinate care, offering treatments and modalities that include psychiatry, psychotherapy, psychological testing and transcranial magnetic stimulation services.

Brengard, who will succeed outgoing CEO Ken Kelly, will be tasked with continuing the organization’s expansion, which has seen Community Psychiatry grow to 44 locations with 120 clinicians who serve patients in person and remotely. Brengard has nearly 30 years of experience working with multi-site healthcare organizations. Most recently, he served as chairman and CEO of U.S. Renal Care, a 350-location network of dialysis centers he founded in 2000.

Community Psychiatry also announced the appointments of Chris Hocevar and Patrick J. Kennedy to its board of directors. Hocevar, who will serve as board chair, has 25 years of experience, including 16 years as president of U.S. commercial segments and specialty businesses at Cigna. Kennedy, the former U.S. representative and founder of The Kennedy Forum, was the lead sponsor for the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act.
