Generic Venlafaxine

The FDA has approved the first generic version of Effexor (venlafaxine). Venlafaxine is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder.TEVA Pharmaceuticals is eligible to manufacture venlafaxine for six months with generic drug exclusivity. The FDA may approve other applications after the exclusivity period has expired.

Statewide IT Solution

Saber Corporation (https://www.saber corp.com) has entered into an agreement to deliver an enterprise health system for the state of North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Saber has teamed with Netsmart Technologies, Inc. (https://www.ntst.com).

The initial phase of the contract with DHHS will replace several of the state's aging public health information systems with a statewide solution serving all public health entities. DHHS has the option to authorize the Saber/Netsmart team to extend the system's coverage to North Carolina's mental and rural health communities. The cumulative effort would create an enterprise statewide health information system, the first of its kind in the United States to integrate public, mental, and rural health, according to Saber and Netsmart. At the core of Saber's secure, Web-based solution is Netsmart's Avatar software.
