Beaumont, UHS Break Ground on Mental Health Hospital in Michigan

Beaumont Health and Universal Health Services announced this week that they have broken ground on the construction of a new mental health hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. The 150-bed facility will be located on an eight-acre property across the street from Beaumont’s existing hospital in Dearborn, and is slated to open in 2021.

The new building, a $40 million project, will double Beaumont’s capacity for inpatient mental healthcare and include:

• Multidisciplinary teams that include psychiatrists, internal medicine physicians, other specialists, certified clinical pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, therapist and clinical support staff
• An integrated assessment and referral center
• Substance use disorder treatment for patients who are receiving care for a mental health diagnosis

Future plans

Beaumont said in a news release that it plans to transition its current inpatient mental health services to the new facility, with plans to expand programs that serve adult, pediatric and geriatric patients. Beaumont and UHS also announced plans to implement a telehealth program to support Beaumont’s nine emergency rooms and other patient care settings.
