The 2014 Information Technology Survey
Our annual look at the companies and products in the healthcare information technology space sizes up a wide range of offerings specific to behavioral health. In all, 63 organizations responded to the survey with detailed information on the markets they serve, the categories they cover and the features they present. By reviewing the features among the vendor offerings, you can see a snapshot of industry trends and potential growth areas.
For example, it's no surprise that electronic health records (EHRs) are still the core product in the IT space, and we don't see the trend shifting for quite some time. More services are moving into the cloud, however, with 87 percent of firms saying they offer the platform. With today's emerging demands for increased access to services, we also predict that the steady 21 percent figure for telehealth technologies will begin to rise in the next several years.
The survey compiled information on IT products and services in three main categories--clinical, administrative, and financial. Drill down for more specific functionality within each category. In the clinical category, for example, you can find EHR, clinical decision support, e-prescribing and telehealth systems and services. Administrative systems include document management/imaging, business intelligence, case management, scheduling and workforce management. Financial systems include accounts payable/general ledger, payroll, revenue cycle management, and managed care.
The survey also collected data on what market the company serves--inpatient, outpatient, residential, payer or government agency--as well as software platforms.
