Two States Receive Federal Funding to Combat Opioid Crisis
The U.S. Department of Labor announced that it is awarding funding to 2 states for job creation and workforce training to combat the opioid crisis.
The Maine Department of Labor is receiving $2.09 million to create jobs and provide employment services to eligible participants in 9 counties, while the Indiana Department of Workforce Development is being awarded $1.1 million in incremental funding to support opioid crisis-focused initiatives in 25 counties.
The funds, which are being administered by the Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration, provide eligible participants with employment in jobs that address the impacts of the opioid crisis, with positions including: recovery coaches, licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselors, and outreach professionals. Funds can also be used to provide services for reintegrating workers affected by the opioid crisis and to train individuals for roles in mental health and addiction treatment, as well as pain management.
