New York center offers round-the-clock assessment, referral
A first-of-its-kind center in New York state is open around the clock to engage, assess and refer individuls with substance use problems, and is being seen as an important strategy in combating the opioid epidemic.
The Open Access Center in Rochester was made possible through $500,000 in renovation and operational funding from the state Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS); its opening was announced earlier this month. The location houses a number of service providers, including a detox center.
The center is a collaborative project of Recovery Net, a coalition of nine community-based providers led by the Delphi Drug and Alcohol Council.
“The new open access center in Rochester addresses the critical need to eliminate barriers to potentially life-saving treatment and support,” said New York Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, who chairs the state's task force on opioid abuse.
