NIDA leader will head new research division
A longtime leader at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) will run a new institute division that will oversee initiatives such as NIDA's work on the Collaborative Research on Addiction at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and its research training and early career development program.
Susan R.B. Weiss, PhD, will lead NIDA's new Division of Extramural Research, the federal agency announced on March 2. Weiss has most recently served as NIDA's associate director for scientific affairs. She originally was hired at the institute in 2002 as a health scientist administrator.
In her new role, Weiss will establish scientific priorities for NIDA's extramural research grant program, under which grants are awarded to outside entities. Other responsibilities will include leading the institute's participation in the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study.
