New Addiction Campuses facility will emphasize DBT, adventure therapy

Addiction Campuses has expanded operations into its third state, opening a 60-bed treatment facility outside Dallas that will feature adventure therapy. Officials have announced that they are allotting $100,000 in treatment scholarships for the new site during the month of February, as well as discounted costs for treatment.

The 40-acre property where Addiction Campuses of Texas is located features zip lines, hiking trails and a tranquility treehouse; the overall program will be called The Treehouse. Addiction Campuses chief clinical officer Toril Newman said in a news release that adventure therapy “offers a wide range of successful techniques that instill confidence in our clients. Ziplining gives the client a sense of accomplishment and taking the power back over their addiction, and in some cases their abuser.”

Addiction Campuses officials say that Texas is currently a high-need area for treatment services in part because of increasing methamphetamine use in the state. They stated in the news release that Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) will be used to help patients cope with situations and achieve balance in their lives. Addiction Campuses also operates facilities in Tennessee and Mississippi.
