Founder of Calif. eating disorder center plans first residential program in N.Y.
The founder of the Monte Nido Treatment Center for eating disorders in California has announced plans to open the first residential eating disorders program of its kind in New York in September.
Carolyn Costin has secured a site in Westchester County for the program; the 10.8-acre property houses a Depression-era stone mansion, a 19th-century barn, a swimming pool and gardens. Monte Nido last year carved a presence on the East Coast by opening a day treatment program in New York City and a residential program in Boston.
Costin says about one-third of the patients her California treatment sites sees are from the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut region.
She would like to include services for men at the New
York program, saying that there has been a steady increase in inquiries about men's services for eating disorders.
