Recovery conference will benefit university research center
This year's University of North Texas Recovery Conference will directly benefit the university's newly formed Office of Substance Misuse and Mental Health Recovery Research, the second research center supported by Life of Purpose Treatment.
The conference will be held Sept. 21-22 at the university campus in Denton, featuring an opening-day keynote by intervention trainer and leader Bill Maher and a second-day behavioral health ethics panel. Proceeds from the fourth annual conference will benefit the research office, which is controlled by the university and is designed to attract talent from numerous disciplines.
“No conference of this nature has ever been structured to raise funding and promote recovery research before,” Life of Purpose founder and CEO Andrew Burki, MSW, said in a news release.
Life of Purpose, which was the first organization to establish a U.S. residential addiction treatment facility on a college campus (at Florida Atlantic University), committed $100,000 for the research office at the University of North Texas.
